GMC Terrain Repair

2007–2012 GMC Acadia

These earlier Acadia’s gave families lots of space and decent V6 power. But they also showed a few repeat issues once they got up in mileage:

  • Transmission Slipping or Failure
It’s not uncommon to see transmission issues pop up under 100,000 miles. Some owners needed full replacements.
  • Timing Chain Wear
That 3.6L engine had a habit of stretching chains if oil changes were skipped or delayed.
  • Power Steering Complaints
Many drivers noticed whining or difficulty turning, often traced to a failing pump or hose.
  • Water Pump Problems
These started leaking more often as the vehicle aged, sometimes leading to overheating.
  • Rear Hatch Trouble
Power liftgates would quit or jam up due to worn struts or sensor malfunctions.

2013–2016 GMC Acadia (Updated First Gen)

With some design updates and new features, these models looked better but still shared a few recurring issues:

  • A/C Not Blowing Cold
Compressors and condensers had a higher-than-usual failure rate, especially in warm-weather states.
  • Front-End Noises
Owners often heard clunks from the front, usually worn strut mounts or sway links.
  • Frozen Screens
Infotainment systems occasionally froze or restarted mid-drive. A few needed full replacements.
  • Battery Drain Mystery
Some owners dealt with dead batteries due to systems staying on after the SUV was shut down.

2017–2023 GMC Acadia (Second Generation)

This generation got a bit smaller and more efficient, but it brought along its own set of quirks:

  • Shift-to-Park Glitch
Even when parked, the car wouldn’t register it, and the message wouldn’t clear until the shifter was replaced.
  • Heater Not Hot Enough
Heater cores often got restricted, especially if coolant service was skipped.
  • Fuel System Hiccups
Delayed starting and jerky throttle response were tied to failing pumps or sensors.
  • Worn Brakes
City drivers especially found themselves replacing pads and rotors more often than expected.
  • Strange Electrical Behavior
Some cars shut off randomly or flashed errors due to bad grounds or poor wiring insulation.

2024–Present GMC Acadia

It’s still early, but we’ve already seen a few patterns:

  • False Alerts from Driver Assist
Lane and collision alerts sometimes go off when nothing’s around, usually from misaligned sensors or glare.
  • Startup Lag
The infotainment screen may take longer than usual to boot or show a black screen temporarily.
